Neil Proff
My name is Neil Proff and I am the director of the Woodinville Jazz Ensemble. I have been playing the saxophone for over 20 years and teaching music to some sort of group (usually jazz based) almost that long. I attended Fife High School where I played and sang in the school groups; as well as playing tenor for 6 years in the local dance band 'A Touch Of Class'.

After high school I went directly to Central Washington University to study under John Moawad. While at Central I earned chairs in the Wind Ensemble and the 1st Jazz Band. I have studied privately with Joe Brooks, Matt Schneider and Tom Gause. Upon graduating, I moved to Spokane and taught there for a little more than two years.

In September of 2004 I moved back home to the Milton area and subbed in the local schools before taking an 18 month military leave replacement assignment at Cedarcrest High School in Duvall for SGT Ryan Lewis. It was not long before I moved to Redmond and began looking for a place to play. Shortly after, I found the Woodinville Community Band and, as fate would have it, they were in need of a director. I have been with the band mostly as the director of the Woodinville Jazz Ensemble since 2004.

While teaching with her at Cedarcrest, I met my intelligent and beautiful wife, Allie. I am now the director of bands at Lake Stevens High School in Lake Stevens, WA. I give my time freely to the community music groups because I love the people involved in our bands and I love to see people of all ages learning our craft.
