The Members
Our bands are comprised of volunteer
musicians of all ages representing a wide variety of
occupations and professions. The Band members come from
all communities around the Puget Sound area and range in
musical ability from beginner to professional, but are
united by a common love for music.
Mission Statement
The Woodinville Community Band is
dedicated to nurturing, facilitating, and promoting a
community appreciation for music, while
providing quality music performances for and on behalf
of the residents of the city of Woodinville and the
surrounding communities.
Our
History
The Woodinville Community Band was
founded in 1993 by Carol Edwards, publisher of the
Woodinville Weekly, who put an ad in her newspaper
calling for musicians to form a community band in the
newly incorporated city of Woodinville. The first
rehearsal was held downtown in the parking lot of the
Las Margaritas Mexican restaurant. Over 40 musicians
answered the call.
As membership grew, rehearsals moved to larger facilities and in 1994 Mayor Lucy DeYoung established the Woodinville Community Band as the official band for the city of Woodinville. Sometime around 1997 the first Jazz band was formed, Tsunami Big Band, which has since gone on to success as an independent group.
The second and current jazz band, The Eastside Modern Jazz Orchestra (formerly The Woodinville Jazz Ensemble), formed in 2002. The WCB has encouraged members to form smaller performance ensembles which include Brass5 (2004), The Whistling Cricket Bayou Dixieland Band (2005), Dissonance (2006) and others.
Past directors of the WCB have included Jon Peters, Gary Kneisel, Jay Gill, Ray Guyll, Jim Truher and Steve Campbell.
